Joline In Mozambique

Mozambique was a new chapter in Joline’s life. She accompanied her husband Diepak to this beautiful Southern African country in September 2007. For Diepak this was his first overseas posting. Joline was very excited about moving to Mozambique and she quickly adapted to their new home. As a young newlywed couple they were both full of dreams and hopes, and looking towards a happy future together.

Soon after arriving in Mozambique, Joline became a member of the International Club of Maputo (ICM), where she made many good friends and became actively engaged in charitable activities. Joline always felt very strongly about helping others, especially children and women. Besides her activities for the ICM, she was revising a manual for Save the Children UK. Another of her planned projects involved the teaching of jewellery making for HIV positive women in the community of Chamanculous. The project was part of the World Bank’s “HIV at the workplace” activities, and it was later named after her in order to honor her commitment to the women of Chamanculous.

Joline and Diepak loved to travel and discover new places in and around Mozambique. They visited Kruger National Park in neighboring South Africa several times, where Joline admired her favorite animal, the Giraffe, in the wild. Together with friends from Switzerland they also discovered the hills and national parks of Swaziland. It was in Mozambique where Joline and Diepak spent their honeymoon. Over New Year 2008 they stayed one week on beautiful Bazaruto Island. Other places Joline and Diepak visited in Mozambique were Inhaca, Bilene and Macaneta.

In Maputo, Joline and Diepak lived in a charming Portuguese-era house in the Sommerchield area. They would spend wonderful evenings and weekends there, and hold many barbeque parties in their beautiful garden. Joline adopted a small puppy dog named Xima that she loved very much, and Diepak picked up a little stray cat in Bilene named Lula. The four of them together would live like a family, and both Joline and Diepak were truly happy during that time.
